TV mounting and shelving in Illinois

TVs, floating shelves, curtain rods, mirrors and art, hung level and secure.

Jobs we handle

  • TVs on drywall or brick
  • Floating shelves
  • Curtain rods
  • Mirrors and art

A TV or shelf is only as solid as what’s holding it. Nikola mounts TVs on drywall and brick, hangs floating shelves, mirrors and art, and puts up curtain rods, all level and anchored into studs or masonry wherever the weight calls for it.

What’s included

  • Finding studs and choosing the right anchors for your wall and the weight it’s holding
  • TVs on fixed, tilting or full-motion wall mounts
  • Mounting on brick and block with masonry anchors
  • Floating shelves, mirrors, art and gallery walls, hung level and evenly spaced
  • Curtain rods and blinds brackets lined up across the window

How the visit goes

Before drilling, Nikola checks the spot with you: how high the TV should sit, where the cords will run and how far a full-motion arm needs to swing. For a gallery wall, he lays out the spacing first so you can see it before any holes go in.

He drills, mounts and levels, then pulls on everything to make sure it’s solid before the TV goes up. Drywall dust gets vacuumed and the packaging leaves with him.

Cords and power

Cords can run behind a paintable cord cover on the wall, which hides them without opening the drywall. Adding or moving an outlet behind the TV is electrical work, which Nikola doesn’t take on. Plan the TV spot near an existing outlet, or have an electrician add one before the mount goes up.

Materials

Most TVs come without a wall mount. You can buy one, or Nikola can recommend a mount rated for your TV’s size and weight and pick it up. He brings the anchors and hardware your wall needs, since the screws in the box don’t always suit it.

Timing

A single TV usually takes about an hour. A few shelves, a mirror or a set of pictures fits easily in the same visit, so it’s worth putting them on one list.

Questions about TV mounting and shelving

Can you mount a TV over a fireplace?

Often, yes. The wall above a fireplace is usually brick, stone or drywall over framing, and each takes different anchors. Heat matters too, so check your TV's manual for how much clearance it needs above a working fireplace. Send a photo of the wall and Nikola will tell you what it takes.

Can you hide the wires?

Cords can run behind a paintable cord cover on the wall. Adding or moving an outlet behind the TV is electrical work, which Nikola doesn't take on, so pick a spot near an existing outlet or have an electrician add one first.

Do I need to buy the mount?

You can, or Nikola can recommend a fixed, tilting or full-motion mount rated for your TV's size and weight and pick it up for you.

What about plaster walls?

Plaster is harder to anchor into than drywall, and it cracks if it's drilled carelessly. Nikola finds the framing behind it, and uses anchors made for plaster where he can't hit a stud.
